Local Photographer is Working to Transform the Way Women Over 40 are

Celebrate mature women of all shapes, sizes, lifestyles and backgrounds at the 40 Over 40 portrait exhibit created and developed by local Bobbi Jo Brooks of Bobbi Jo Brooks Fine Art & Photography. Bobbi Jo will unveil the results of her 18 month long project, The 40 Over 40 Portrait Experience on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Dave and Pauli’s Art Emporium 218 North Hamilton Street Dalton, Georgia 30720. The portrait showcase will feature photographs of women over 40 years old that she captured during a “model for a day adventure” in her private studio. The project was born from her philosophy that the more we see images of mature women who are happy, confident and unafraid of aging, the more we are encouraged to feel better about ourselves at any age.
“I set out to show how beautiful women are as they age, and it’s turned into something magical. So many women over the age of 40 feel that they are disappearing, that they are becoming invisible,” Brooks said. “So, I wanted to show that women at this age are still beautiful, still vibrant. Many are starting new careers, starting new businesses, thriving and giving back.”
Each portrait will be exhibited gallery style alongside personal stories showcased that Brooks collected from each of the women featured in the exhibit. Brooks hopes the younger generation will embrace the wisdom and strength offered. She also hopes the exhibit will show younger women that they can look forward to aging, and there is a new level of wisdom and beauty ahead.

Brooks recently launched her next 40 Over 40 Experience and plans to continue photographing women throughout 2024 in both her Dalton studio. Each photo session includes a professional makeover with hair and makeup, and styling consultation to help plan how you want to be photographed. The session costs $395 dollars. About Bobbi Jo Brooks Fine Art & Photography
Bobbi Jo Brooks' journey began with studies in Bible, Theology, and Social Work. Working with teen convicts, she felt the weight of the criminal acts of her clients. Seeking an outlet, she picked up a camera and found solace in capturing beauty through photographing her roommates and beauty in nature. This act of creation, sparked by a need for healing, became a life-changing force to Brooks’ life and career.
Now, a Portrait, Branding/Headshot, and Event Photographer based in Dalton, GA, Brooks has over two decades of experience. After 17 years in non-profit work, she transitioned her part-time photography business into a full-time pursuit in 2021.
Witnessing the struggles of women overlooked and denied opportunities, Brooks found a deep passion. She uses her photography skills to empower women through "The 40 Over 40 Portrait Experience." This project, which she considers her most powerful work, provides a platform for women to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
